Sheldon,
You seem to have a great knowledge of cooking.
What is your background in cooking?
Thanks,
Al

Actually, as much as I disagree with a lot of his racist BS, he does
seem to have a bit of cooking knowledge, or at least some good cooking
encyclopedias. |

His racism is the only thing you object to?! I think you left a few other
things out.
He does have knowledge of cooking. Anything with a mouth can eat, and
anything with basic function in their hands and forebrains can cook.
So Sheldon has had a whole lot of time to pursue a solitary hobby, the
proceeds of which he shares with his cats, the only things with a pulse that
can put up with him, who are nevertheless locked in so they have no choice.
Big surprise.

I like his bipolar tirades. They make me feel better about paying taxes so
the state of New York can maintain group homes like the one in which he
lives. |

Nope. Not a troll.
Sheldon can be obnoxious, but he gives good advice about cooking.
It's an honest question: What is Sheldon's background in cooking? |

Sheldon invented the modern stove. He also invented all the currently used
methods for extracting natural gas from the earth to run those stoves. As a
child, he discovered stainless steel. The restaurant as we know it would not
exist had he not invented the cash register. |

Sheldon is in fact very knowledgeable, and I have learned a lot from
him. Unfortunately, some of his knowledge is wrong, and he is too
darned stubborn to ever admit it.
Probably he should answer the question about his background himself, but
he seldom answers direct questions. I believe he mentioned cooking in
the the US Navy.

Some of the RFC people had a bit of a time with Sheldon; this posting
of exchanges should bring you up a bit on the history if you ignore
the rancor in the exchange:
http://tinyurl.com/36mu9y
His background: a retired Navy cook who is probably bipolar; knows a
lot in the cookbook sense that a Navy cook would have; is willing
to share unless his dark mood hits in which case he is ridiculously
abusive with a generous heaping of obscenity (a typing Tourettes?)
and very adamantly bigoted commentary. He seems to be strongly
Conservative (almost Luddite) and in his better moods can be wonderfully
helpful in offering recipes, suggestions and is very knowledgeable about
kitchen hardware except for nonstick pans about which he is paranoid.
His basic use is as of comic relief with a few nicely contributed gems
of knowledge. If you remember the movie Apocalypse Now you might
remember the Chef on the boat: the Chef was running away from the
things that Sheldon had embraced in defining a career as a Navy cook.
He has no knowledge or appreciation or understanding of anything to
do with current cooking techniques, but is very devoted to and
appreciative of his cats. That is good.

Not to defend the boy and just for curiosity what are you folks culinary
bona fides?
I see where SW states:"Many of us who know a lot about the kitchen long ago
saw through
his charade".
So where did you guys get your kitchen knowledge and cooking skills and how
do you know of his training/experience? |

He may, in fact, be more skilled than anyone else. But, his lunacy makes
everything about him suspect, according to some people including me.
